Cordyceps
Cordyceps militaris
Energy and endurance positioning — preliminary evidence trending positive for exercise tolerance.
What the evidence shows
Human evidence is modest but more encouraging than most functional mushrooms for exercise. A 2017 study found a Cordyceps militaris–containing blend improved high-intensity exercise tolerance, with VO2max and time-to-exhaustion improving after about three weeks (but not after one week). A narrative review of five intervention studies found benefits tend to require chronic rather than acute use, and several studies used multi-mushroom blends — which complicates attribution to cordyceps alone. Most supplements use lab-grown C. militaris or mycelium strains, not wild C. sinensis.

Active compounds
Cordycepin, adenosine, polysaccharides
Primary positioning angle: exercise performance, energy, oxygen utilization.
Format fit & formulation notes
Cordyceps has a milder taste profile than reishi or chaga, which helps in gummies and chocolate. Energy positioning pairs well with creator and fitness audiences. Dose volume is manageable across formats; capsules are straightforward for higher daily doses. We match extract standardization (cordycepin content) to your label and positioning.
Typical dose range (as studied)
Trials have used roughly 1–3 g/day of extract; some blend studies used up to ~12 g/day. Chronic use (3+ weeks) appears more relevant than acute dosing in the published work.
Cautions
Generally well tolerated. Theoretical immune-stimulating and blood-sugar effects — caution with autoimmune conditions or diabetes medication.
Claims defensibility
Brands can position on energy and endurance with hedged language — incremental, not stimulant-like effects. Avoid implying pre-workout replacement or disease treatment.
Energy and exercise/endurance-support positioning, framed as incremental and tied to chronic use.
Stimulant or pre-workout equivalence, guaranteed performance gains, and any disease-treatment claim.

Questions, answered.
Is cordyceps a good fit for a creator or fitness brand?
It's a common choice for energy and endurance positioning. The human data is preliminary but directionally positive for exercise tolerance with chronic use. Format-wise, it carries well in gummies and chocolate when dose and taste are developed together.
Cordyceps militaris vs Cordyceps sinensis — does it matter for formulation?
Most commercial supplements use lab-grown C. militaris or standardized mycelium strains — not wild C. sinensis. Potency varies by extract. We formulate around your specified supplier and potency target.
How long should a cordyceps product be used before effects?
Published exercise studies suggest benefits may require roughly three weeks of chronic use rather than a single acute dose. That's useful context for product directions and marketing copy — subject to your regulatory review.
Can you make cordyceps gummies under my brand?
Yes. Gummies are a strong format for cordyceps when dose per piece and flavor masking are engineered to your spec. Minimums and timelines are confirmed per project.
