Functional mushroom supplements, formulated under your brand
Functional mushrooms are fungi formulated for specific physiological effects — cognition, immune modulation, energy, stress resilience — carried in a supplement or functional-food format. This hub is for brand buyers deciding which mushroom, which format, and what claims are defensible.
Why brands are launching mushroom products.
Mushroom supplements have moved from niche to mainstream shelf presence. Industry analysts size the global functional-mushroom market in the tens of billions of dollars and project sustained high-single-digit to mid-teens annual growth through the early 2030s — estimates vary widely by firm, so treat any single figure with caution. Dietary supplements are consistently reported as the largest end-use segment, and cognitive-health positioning (lion’s mane especially) is a major demand driver, led by younger, wellness-focused buyers.
Buyers increasingly ask whether those actives can live in chocolate or gummies, not just capsules — and the gap between consumer hype and published human evidence is wide. Brands that launch with honest, evidence-calibrated positioning stand out.
NutraLabel formulates and manufactures functional mushroom products under your label — chocolate, gummies, and capsules — so you can enter the category with real formulation expertise behind the brand.
Pick a positioning, then a mushroom and format.
Most brands start from the benefit they want to sell, not the mushroom. Use this as a quick map from positioning to active to the formats that carry it best — then open the formulation guide for the mushroom that fits.
| If you want to sell… | Lead mushroom | Best formats | Evidence |
|---|---|---|---|
| Focus / nootropic | Lion's Mane | Chocolate, Gummies, Capsules | Preliminary |

| Energy / endurance | Cordyceps | Gummies, Chocolate, Capsules | Preliminary |

| Antioxidant | Chaga | Chocolate, Capsules | Weak |
| Beauty / skin | Tremella | Chocolate, Gummies, Capsules | Weak |
*Turkey tail’s stronger clinical evidence is for prescription-grade PSK/PSP as a supervised cancer adjunct — not for OTC products. Evidence ratings are for the headline use; see each guide.
At a glance — evidence and format fit.
Lion's Mane
Hericium erinaceus
The nootropic headliner — cognition and focus positioning with preliminary human evidence.
Reishi
Ganoderma lucidum
Calm, sleep, and immune positioning — preliminary overall evidence, moderate for immune-cell modulation.
Cordyceps
Cordyceps militaris
Energy and endurance positioning — preliminary evidence trending positive for exercise tolerance.
Turkey Tail
Trametes versicolor
Immune positioning — moderate evidence for PSK/PSP as a supervised cancer adjunct, not OTC powder.
Chaga
Inonotus obliquus
Antioxidant positioning — weak human evidence; prominent kidney-safety caution required.
Tremella
Tremella fuciformis
Beauty and skin-hydration positioning — weak oral evidence; stronger topical story.
Shiitake
Lentinula edodes
The everyday immune and heart mushroom — culinary-familiar, with preliminary human immune and cholesterol data.
Maitake
Grifola frondosa
Immune and metabolic positioning — beta-glucan D-fraction with preliminary human immune evidence.
How mushrooms carry in chocolate, gummies, and capsules.
Chocolate
Premium, giftable, and our sharpest wedge. Bitterness masking, heat stability, and dose-per-piece engineering matter — especially for reishi and chaga. From 800 units.
Gummies
Strong for cordyceps and lion's mane when flavor and dose per piece are developed together. Water-soluble extracts carry well. From 2,400 units depending on size.
Capsules
Straightforward for higher daily doses and bitter extracts (reishi dual extract, turkey tail). Custom formulation — minimums confirmed per project.
Extraction method matters: hot-water extraction for beta-glucans; dual (water + alcohol) extraction for reishi triterpenes. Fruiting-body vs. mycelium-on-grain sourcing affects potency and label transparency — we formulate around your specified extract. Compare formats.
Verified extract, not grain filler.
Mushroom potency lives in the beta-glucans, and the market is inconsistent about delivering them. Independent testing of commercial lion’s mane extracts has found beta-glucan content ranging from under 5% to over 80% — and because the FDA doesn’t require brands to disclose beta-glucan percentage, extraction method, or extract ratio, much of that variation is invisible on the label. Many low-cost products are mycelium grown on grain, which dilutes the active with starch.
That gap is an opportunity for your brand. We formulate around a defined extract — fruiting body vs. mycelium, extraction method, and a target beta-glucan spec — so what your label implies and what’s in the product actually match. It’s the difference between formulating a real product and relabeling someone else’s. Fruiting body vs mycelium.
Single actives or multi-mushroom blends.
The market is moving toward stacks — lion’s mane + cordyceps for focus-plus-energy, or mushroom- plus-adaptogen daily-wellness blends. We formulate single-active products and multi-mushroom blends alike. Each added active raises formulation and claims complexity, so we develop the dose, taste, and stability of a blend together rather than simply combining powders.
We focus on three formats — functional chocolate, gummies, and capsules. We don’t make mushroom powders, coffees, or beverages; if those are central to your concept, we may not be the right fit, and we’ll say so early.
Evidence summaries only — your brand owns the claims.
NutraLabel makes no health, disease, or efficacy claims about any finished product. The evidence summaries on this hub are educational — framed as “what published human trials suggest,” not “treats” or “cures.” Finished-product claims are your brand’s responsibility and subject to FDA/FTC rules in your market.
Mushroom-specific cautions (chaga oxalates, turkey-tail oncology context, blood-thinner interactions) are noted on each spoke page. Review our quality & compliance overview before finalizing label copy.

Functional mushrooms, answered.
Can NutraLabel manufacture functional mushroom supplements under my brand?
Yes. We formulate and produce functional mushroom products in chocolate, gummies, and capsules under your label — from ingredient selection and dose through finished, shelf-ready goods.
Which functional mushroom formats do you make?
All three core formats: functional chocolate (from 800 units), gummies (from 2,400 units depending on size), and custom capsules (minimums confirmed per project). The right format depends on the mushroom, dose, taste, and your audience.
Do you use stock recipes or custom formulas for mushroom products?
Both. Ready-made white-label routes get you to market faster; custom private-label formulation develops a formula around your active, dose, taste, and positioning. Custom formulas stay exclusively yours.
How should my brand talk about mushroom benefits on the label?
Finished-product claims are your brand's responsibility and must follow FDA/FTC rules in your market. NutraLabel provides formulation expertise and evidence summaries for your team; your regulatory advisor approves label language.
Reishi vs lion's mane — which should I launch first?
Lion's mane leads on consumer awareness and nootropic search demand. Reishi fits calm, sleep, and immune positioning — especially in premium chocolate where triterpene story matters. The better first launch depends on your audience and format, not a universal ranking.
Can you put mushrooms in functional chocolate?
Yes — functional mushroom chocolate is a core wedge for us. Bitterness, dose volume, extract type, and heat stability all affect the formula. We develop the chocolate and the mushroom extract together so taste and dose hold up batch to batch.
What we need to quote your product.
You don’t need all of this to start a conversation — but the more you can share, the faster we can come back with a real formulation path and a first-sample timeline.
- Mushroom(s) and any blend you have in mind
- Format — chocolate, gummies, or capsules
- Target dose per serving (or 'help me decide')
- Extract preference — fruiting body, dual extract, beta-glucan target
- Positioning and the audience you're selling to
- Markets you'll sell in (affects claims and compliance)
- Rough volume and any launch timing
- Ready-made (faster) vs custom formulation
